Here's a question?
Why don't we just move our Air Force technology to all remotely-manned planes? If a remotely controled plane is shot down, no pilot dies.... We could (with the proper investment in the research) improve the present technology to the point where the pilot flying the plane remotely could have the full range of visual awareness & control he/she would have in the cockpit (perhaps even better!).
Read this short piece on the debate:

What do you think? Do UAVs raise any ethical issues that a manned plane does not?

I don't think any country should switch to an entirely unmanned force. With an unmanned force, the reality and horrors of war, are less "real." The killing is done farther and farther away and the effects of killing are lower. I can only imagine what it is like to look into a man's eye and then pull the trigger. I believe that feeling would be almost unbearable and make me want to end wars ASAP. By making war less dangerous and taking away the emotional and mental stresses related make it easier to kill and war will become more of a common thing. Also, with unmanned vehicles people will fight and destroy each others machines, until they are all killed, then be forced to use humans, so essentially it won't save human lives, but merely cost a lot more money for the same outcome.
