It happened again...

More Retired Generals came out against Rumsfeld yesterday.
See here.

What do you think? Is this any different than when the slew of them came out against the SecDef earlier in the Spring? It seems a bit different in this respect at least: it was at a Senate Committee meeting... but it was a Democratic Policy meeting... so is this just election cycle politics? More of the disgruntled Generals voicing legitimate complaints? And, of course, what implications does this have for on-going tough questions like the breakdown of trust between the civilian authority and military leadership?

I agree…the generals have no right to resign and then turn around and speak out about their previous (can one really retire from this after 20+ years?) profession. While they may have resigned, these generals are still receiving pay from the government (about $80,000/year) for their service. As a retired member of the military, their opinions still carry a lot of weight, as if they were still active duty. With the continued outcry from retired generals, maybe there should be an avenue in which they can express their dissension? They have many years of experience to share and perhaps there should be an avenue to voice new views that they may have gained from their experience. Even with this new avenue, retired members of the military must still remember their place and the importance of civilian oversight for the military, retired and active members included.
